Last General PTO Meeting: Difficult Topics - How to talk to your CHMS student
Come join us for the last PTO General Meeting of the year on Thursday, May 15th from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm and hear a local expert's advice on how to speak to your middle schooler about difficult topics. Has your 6th, 7th or 8th grader come to you with topics you didn't quite know how to handle or do you ever wonder if you said the right thing? Come hear from a local parent and Licensed Clinical Social Worker for a casual Q and A to get all of your questions answered.
Please RSVP HERE by May 8th!
We plan to meet at Gone Grazy and support our local community partners depending on number of attendees.
Did You Know? A CHMS PTO 6-Week Series, Article #5: Spotlight on Oak Brook - A Hidden Gem in the CHMS Community
Did you know that Clarendon Hills Middle School (CHMS) serves students from not just Clarendon Hills and Hinsdale, but also a unique corner of Oak Brook? Roughly 10% of the CHMS student population comes from this lesser-known but historical part of the school district.
Nestled north of Ogden Avenue, the area known as Fullersburg Woods includes portions of Hinsdale and Oak Brook. Students from streets like Madison, Washington, Spring, and the neighborhoods surrounding York Road and I-294 call this area home—and CHMS their school.
Fullersburg Woods holds a special place in local history. It was originally part of the broader Fullersburg community, which actually predates the formal incorporation of both Hinsdale and Oak Brook. In the 1830s, Benjamin Fuller and his family established a small settlement here, and though the village of Fullersburg no longer exists in name, its legacy lives on in both municipalities still.
Over the years, as suburban development took off, the land was gradually divided. Hinsdale annexed part of Fullersburg in the early 1900s, and when Oak Brook was officially incorporated in 1958, the remaining portion became part of that village. Yet, amidst all the change, Fullersburg Woods Forest Preserve remained protected. Established in the 1930s by the DuPage County Forest Preserve District, it has become a beloved destination for scenic walks, environmental education, and visits to the historic Graue Mill.
Today, families from Oak Brook contribute a vibrant and valuable perspective to the CHMS community. Their neighborhoods blend historical roots with natural beauty, offering students the chance to grow up near a forest preserve that’s not only ecologically significant, but deeply intertwined with the area's past.
So next time you walk the halls of CHMS, remember—it’s not just a Clarendon Hills or Hinsdale story. Oak Brook has a proud place in the Eagle family too.
