Green Ribbon Awarded to CHMS!

We are excited to be one of two schools in Illinois to be recognized!

The Department of Education (ED) selected 41 schools, 10 districts, three postsecondary institutions, and one early learning center as 2024 Green Ribbon Schools. Honorees have demonstrated innovative efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, improve health and wellness, and ensure effective sustainability education.

“The entire D181 School District is thrilled that Clarendon Hills Middle School has been awarded the Green Ribbon School distinction. This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, students, parents, and faculty," said Clarendon Hills Middle School Principal Dr. Levi Brown. “Our stakeholders are committed to innovative efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, improve health and wellness, and offer effective sustainability education throughout our school. We are excited to continue our efforts within Clarendon Hills Middle School to promote environmental stewardship and inspire future generations. Big thanks to everyone who has been a part of this journey – together, we're making a difference!"

Clarendon Hills Middle School's commitment to sustainability includes initiatives like the development of a Demand-Response contract, which is used to manage energy consumption effectively and ensure grid stability, onsite solar and wind power, and efficient building systems. The school offers environmental education programs and engages students in activities, such as composting. Additionally, the school fosters community involvement through partnerships and initiatives like the Clarendon Living Classroom, which offers opportunities for outdoor learning and lab experiences.

CHMS Best of the Nest – Mrs. Angie Dimitriou

As you may recall, our amazing PTO sponsors our staff appreciation award, the “Best of the Nest” with a premium parking spot for the winner!

Staff members nominate each other based on:
Who has inspired you?
Who is making you a better staff member?
Who is making your day more enjoyable?
Who is doing great things for kids?
Who is consistently in your corner?
Who is implementing innovative strategies in the building?
This award continues to demonstrate the inspiring, kind, and giving staff we have here at CHMS. The incredible words that are written toward each other in response to the thoughtful actions taken are inspirational.

This month, Mrs. Angie Dimitriou (CHMS Resource Teacher) was our lucky winner! A few comments shared about her were:

  • Angie is a very dedicated teacher!
  • She wants to see the best from her students and make sure that they are learning to the fullest extent possible.
  • Angie goes above and beyond to show that she cares for her students - she works hard, and she always tries to be positive.
  • It's a pleasure working with Angie!

Congratulations again to Mrs. Dimitriou and all of our nominated staff members!

Principal, Clarendon Hills Middle School
