🤟 Learn to Speak with Your Hands This Summer! American Sign Language is now part of D181 Summer School!

American Sign Language (ASL) has officially been added to the D181 Summer School curriculum—and it’s a great way for students to kick off summer with a unique and engaging experience. Whether your child is brand new to ASL or looking to refresh their skills, this light, fun course in June offers a meaningful way to learn something new without a big time commitment. You can find the ASL course listed on page 7 of the catalog, and registration opens today!

Even more exciting, this summer opportunity could help spark student interest and momentum for launching an ASL Club at school next year. If your child has heard about ASL from friends or is simply curious, this is a perfect way to get involved. Please consider encouraging your student to sign up and share with others who might be interested.

Reminder, IAR this week

The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) math and reading testing is the week after Spring Break, Tuesday, April 8 - Thursday, April 10.

These tests are directly reflected on the State's School Report Card, so we ask that you have your child(ren) well rested and fed breakfasts, and encourage them to try their best!

Here is a link for the modified bell schedule on those days.

Did You Know? A CHMS PTO 6-Week Series!

Have you ever driven by CHMS during drop-off or pick-up, or walked past the structure in front of the school after a concert and wondered, “What is that?”

That structure is a wind turbine, installed in 2010 as a collaborative project funded by the District 181 Foundation, the CHMS PTO, and the Mike McCurry Group at a total cost of $41,000.

More than just a symbol of sustainability, this turbine serves as an educational tool, with students playing an active role in its planning. It provides real-time data on wind speed and energy production, enriching science lessons on renewable energy, environmental science, and engineering. To this day, the turbine continues to inspire students and the community to explore sustainable energy solutions and environmental awareness.
